Columbia, Mo. — A creative collaboration between DeAaron Henderson and Chantel “Pep” Stanciel, the Midwest Invitational Camp, powered by “GoL1ive”, made its debut on the weekend of October 17th and 18th, 2020 at Columbia Sports Fieldhouse. Featuring both middle school and high school divisions, the event showcased more than 120 of the state’s top talents from Kansas City to St. Louis, and as far south as Springfield and across the Illinois border. Here’s part one of our headliner series highlighting the most impressive players from the Class of 2025…
Jayden Bey | Belleville, IL | Class of 2025
Bey is fairly new to the game but has immense physical gifts that are allowing him to quickly catch his peers. Standing 6-foot-7, the majority of his impact is primarily made as a defensive presence, but he flashed potential on the glass by pursuing rebounds across the lane and displaying finishing abilities inside the paint. The lean forward is gangly, but ran the floor with ease, and was surprisingly quick off the floor as a leaper. He was likely the leading shot-blocker in the middle school division of the Midwest Invitational Camp despite relying more on his length than feel or timing. The Illinois product is a raw but promising prospect.
Brock Camp | Columbia, MO | Class of 2025
The 6-foot-4 local standout was one of the most imposing competitors to take the court at the Midwest Invitational Camp. A well-built but slightly undersized post prospect with an advanced physical stature, Camp bullied his way to the rim, and finished with strength and power. He didn’t jump over defenders, but instead, used his impressive motor and toughness to consistently outwork them throughout the weekend. While Camp will need to improve his lateral quickness and continue expanding his overall skills outward, he did demonstrate some touch in catch-and-shoot situations.
Caleb Estes | Kansas City, MO | Class of 2025
A superb athlete, Estes found success at the Midwest Invitational Camp due to his ability to effectively attack and finish in the lane. The 6-foot-1 guard was a dynamic scorer off the bounce, showing creativity at the rim, and the explosiveness to create space and make plays with the ball. A relative newcomer to the camp scene, Estes overwhelmed unsuspecting opponents on both ends of the floor, and has a frame that suggests he may develop additional athleticism as he matures. His feel and instincts should turn the corner as he gains more experience in elite settings.
Terron Garrett | St. Louis, MO | Class of 2025
Garrett has earned some attention on the youth hoops circuit with Team Ramey and is a fairly polished backcourt prospect who displayed a variety of scoring tools off the dribble during the Midwest Invitational Camp. A 6-foot-1 perimeter player, Garrett appears to have a few more inches left in his frame based on his length, yet was also more fluid than the majority of his peers in the middle school division. There’s an element of poise and smoothness to his game and Garrett’s confidence appears ready to vault upward since his reclassification into the Class of 2025.
Reese Minnix | Columbia, MO | Class of 2025
An agile forward with broad shoulders, Minnix will be a name to monitor from the Show-Me State in the coming years. Slated to attend Rockbridge High School, Minnix should have little difficulty producing immediately at the high school level thanks to his feel, consistent effort, and relative versatility. Although his lateral quickness will need to improve, he showed adequate footwork on the block, and impacted play in a variety of ways at the Midwest Invitational Camp. As his face-up skills develop, expect Minnix to become a formidable matchup for defenders in the varsity ranks.
