This group of young men showed me very early that the future of basketball in the Heartland is very bright. These prospects came from Illinois, Kentucky, and a herd came from the land of Bird, Larry Bird, and the state of Indiana, which of course was the most represented at the Prep Hoops Next Heartland Kickoff.
I give you my All-Tournament Team for the Class of 2027 from Indianapolis. To be clear, these prospects are on an “as watched” basis throughout the weekend. These five prospects showed off their craft to those of us in attendance and were well deserving of this All-Tournament Team.
Ed Williams IV | Chicago, IL | Class of 2027
Williams left a great impression in multiple games for the Chicago Demons this weekend. Based on some of the plays I watched him make, I believe he has an excellent basketball IQ for a sixth-grader. Williams did a nice job finding creating his own cushion outside of the key with his mid-range game. He’s also a player at a young age that is fearless when it comes to contact at the basket. Williams is a player that plays much bigger than he looks as a 5’0 guard.
Marcus Britt | Speedway, IN | Class of 2028
Holy cow, was this young man impressive on Saturday. Britt is a team-first player that sees the entire floor very well. What impressed me most was his passing ability. His ability to string together a variety of crisp passes from long passes across the court, advancing the ball quickly up the court and the smooth bounce pass to find his teammates inside. Watching him and his teammates from Team Teague 2028 Boyd push the pace against a solid Chicago Demons 2027 team opened up my eyes to keep watching this Team Teague program throughout the 2021 Prep Hoops Next Circuit.
Elijah Anderson | Washington Township, IN | Class of 2027
There was not a more dominant bruiser in the paint from the Class of 2027 than Indiana Elite’s Elijah Anderson. Any contact this young man was given in the paint seemed non-existent to him in the game I watched on Sunday. He didn’t shy away from it; he embraced it getting bucket after bucket in Elite’s significant win over Chicago Demons EYG. This 5’7 forward already has a strong frame, so with an upcoming growth spurt, I’m sure he’ll be even stronger once he reaches the high school level.
Carson Long | Louisville, KY| Class of 2027
One of the best outside shooting strokes I saw this weekend came from Team Manimal 2027’s Carson Long. For some reason, this young man was left unguarded from the corner for most of the game I watched on Saturday night. Not just that he was draino from three, but I was a big fan of how Long’s form was at such a young age. A coach’s kid, Long’s range goes outside the three-point line, which is a nice site to see at the age of 12 out of St. Patrick Catholic School in Louisville’s far east side.
Cash Daniels | Lawrence, IN | Class of 2027
Daniels showed a slashing ability that was, in my opinion, beyond his years for Indiana Elite 2027. Cash is a kid that uses his speed upcourt extremely well as he gets to spaces on the court he wants. One of two Elite players on this list, Daniels is a shifty prospect I really look forward to watching more in the Heartland region for the upcoming years. His passing ability also spoke high volumes of his game this weekend.
