Gavyn Harrison | Santa Margarita, CA | Class of 2027
Harrison’s lean and springy frame stood out among his Class of 2027 peers and his bloodlines likely foreshadow a promising future on the hardwood. The nephew of 2004 1st round NBA draft pick, David Harrison, and 2012 1st round WNBA draftee, Isabelle Harrison, athletic excellence is prevalent in the Harrison family. A 5-foot-9 forward, Harrison is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential, but made a positive first impression at the Prep Hoops Next West Coast Kick-off by helping lead 5onfive Basketball (CA) to the sixth-grade division championship game. His name is certainly one to remember among high-ceiling prospects on the West Coast.
Brenden Hawkins | Newcastle, CA | Class of 2027
Hawkins helped to bolster a stacked Sneaker Steal (CA) roster during their run to the sixth-grade title at the Prep Hoops Next West Coast Kick-off. The 5-foot-7 perimeter prospect has the size and skill to compete in both guard and forward roles for his club and provided consistent production on both ends of the floor throughout the event. Hawkins did an excellent job of converting his opportunities in transition and was also very effective attacking the basket off the bounce. His ability to finish through contact in the lane was impressive and Hawkins flashed range and proficiency with his jumper as well.
Tyler Johnson | Vacaville, CA | Class of 2027
Johnson was arguably the smoothest playmaker in the field at the Prep Hoops Next West Coast Kick-off. The wiry lead guard was electric with the ball, showed advanced feel and vision, as well as extraordinary creativity as a playmaker. As the primary facilitator for Sneaker Steal (CA), Johnson has ample talent around him, and it’s likely his most difficult task is equally distributing the ball amongst his teammates. In addition to the passing clinic that he provided throughout the weekend, Johnson also took his turn scoring the basketball, exhibiting touch in the lane and a blossoming mid-range game off the dribble.
David Lunn | Albuquerque, NM | Class of 2027
Lunn was a dominant interior presence for the J.B. White Elite (NM) sixth-grade team at the Prep Hoops Next West Coast Kick-off. Nearly six-feet tall, the Class of 2027 post player displayed a reliable set of hands, racking up rebounds and tallying a number of putback finishes in the lane. In addition to his skills in the paint, Lunn demonstrated agile footwork relative to his size and showcased an emerging level of ease when facing the basket, both of which will become vital elements as he transitions his game outward. His hoops pedigree should also be factored into the long-term equation when assessing Lunn’s upside as a prospect.
Josiah McDowell | San Diego, CA | Class of 2027
McDowell brings excellent versatility to the court for a young player and was an important contributor for the San Diego Prospects (CA) during the Prep Hoops Next West Coast Kick-off tournament. A 5-foot-10 forward, he is comfortable facing the rim, but can also work from the low block if his matchup requires. McDowell’s strength, athleticism, and coordination are all obvious physical advantages that he utilizes to immensely impact the game at this stage. The Class of 2027 prospect was a standout in both the sixth and seventh-grade divisions on this particular weekend.
