The event took place on February 6th and 7th at the Ladera Ranch Sports Complex in Southern California. The event which was open to 12u, 13u, and 14u teams, featured competitive pool play, and a championship bracket. It also featured several talented young big men. In this article, PHN takes a look at some of the top bigs from the event.
Tyler Bright 6’6 C West Coast Select 2025 – It was a good showing this weekend for Bright. He was more fluid than I originally thought, showing the ability to change ends well. He understood how to use his size and length, several times walling up against defenders, forcing them into difficult shot attempts. I was impressed with his hands. He caught the ball well but also showed the ability to use his wide catch radius to snag out of area boards.

6’5 PF YBA Elite 2026 – He looked good and at times dominant on the weekend. Offensively Vanlaningham already has a go to move, as he loves to catch and then use one dribble to turn over his left shoulder. He displayed a nice touch right around the rim finishing several short jump hooks with his strong hand. Defensively he was one of the top rim protectors at the event. He didn’t just block shots, he erased them causing opponents to alter their shots whenever he was in the vicinity.
Koa Peat 6’7 PF AEBC 2025 – Peat showed why he is considered one of the top bigs in the country. He left his imprint on every game he played, and his performances directly impacted the games. His rebounding could be described as elite, but it was also his ball skills and offensive touch around the rim that was impressive. Peat showed range out to about 15, and even delivered post entry passes to teammates. He’s a good looking prospect with the potential to be a high major player one day.

6’5 C Team AON 2025 – Miller was one of the more physically imposing players. He has an advanced frame and was able to bully opponents down low. His impact was felt primarily on the defensive end, as he rebounded and protected the rim at a high level.

6’7 C JB White Elite 2025 – Walls flashed glimpses of his potential this weekend. A long rangy athlete he was one of the best rim runners I saw. Walls repeatedly beat everyone down the floor on both ends. The 6’7 post displayed a solid offensive skill set, posting hard and displaying good hands. His length was a deterrent around the rim, as he altered and blocked several shots during the weekend.
Rocket Schwertley 6’2 PF JB White Elite 2026 – Rocket is starting to emerge as a candidate for my all showtime team. Lights come on he goes off. Schwertly is a skilled big that excelled at pick and pop basketball. His ability to stretch the floor was extremely valuable and he showed good touch from both behind the arc and at the line. He had a big time 29 point performance against Branch West in a pool play game.
