The event took place on February 6th and 7th at the Ladera Ranch Sports Complex in South Orange County. The event which was open to 12u, 13u, and 14u teams, featured competitive pool play, and a championship bracket. It also featured several promising young players. In this article, we look at some of the standouts from the class off 2027 at the event.
Ty Johnson 5’5 PG Sneaker Steal – Johnson was one of the most creative passers at the event. The jitterbug PG had his share of no look and flashy dishes, setting up teammates for easy buckets. He also managed to score the ball as well, getting layups in the lane.
DJ Spencer 6’0 SF Sneaker Steal – Spencer is a good looking young prospect. He moves well for a player his size and knows how to finish down low. His rebounding and scoring around the bucket were a huge key in SS being dominant throughout the weekend.
Jordan Mize 5’7 SG Sneaker Steal – Mize is a lefty sniper. He has H.S 3 point range on his shot and managed to mix it up by driving to the rim when defenders closed to him. He was effective in his age group, but I thought he was also one of the top shooters at the event regardless of class.
Braxton Caruso 6’0 PF Sneaker Steal – It was a good weekend for Caruso, the bruising forward grabbed a ton of rebounds. He towered over his opponents, however that shouldn’t take away from the fact that he finished around the rim and rebounded at an elite level on the weekend.
Dax Hall 5’4 SG SD Prospects – Dax “Hollywood” Hall. The diminutive shooting guard has a big-time strap. He was deadly from the 3 point line and was a good compliment to the driving skills of Jayden Gray. When you factor in that he was playing up, easy to see why he was one of the top players in his class. His highlight game was a 19 point 5 3 pointer performance.
Darrell Bagsby 5’0 PG The Truth – It was a hit or miss weekend for Bagsby, but I think you have to give him credit for playing up and contributing to the runner-ups. He showed that he can score and knockdown 3’s. Perhaps his best game was his 13 point performance against Branch West to help the Truth reach the Semis.
