Edmond, Okla. — The Prep Hoops Next circuit is on the move once again as the event series is scheduled to make its sixth stop overall, and second in the Southwest region, at this weekend’s “Sooner State Showdown” in the greater Oklahoma City area. Solid Rock Basketball will serve as the headquarters and the only venue for the three-day tournament, likely foreshadowing an action-packed event set to take place under one roof.
Twenty eighth-grade teams from the Class of 2025 will be joined by fourteen seventh-grade programs and twelve sixth-grade clubs, comprising a 40+ team field stacked with excellent regional talent. Here are just a few the storylines to track as action tips off on Friday evening…
Is Team Griffin The Nation’s Best?
Team Griffin namesake Blake Griffin recently joined an NBA “super team” in the Brooklyn Nets, but his eighth-grade unit has also assembled their own youth hoops super squad, stocked with impressive homegrown talent. Several nationally-ranked teams have already tested their talents on the Prep Hoops Next circuit to begin the grassroots basketball season but Team Griffin’s staff feels their roster leads the pack when it comes to the Class of 2025 and their debut will be met with great excitement.
Southwest Kick-Off Champs Return
Another developing headline to follow during the Sooner State Showdown will be the return of Texas-based Southern Assault. Expectations are extremely high for this eighth-grade group, as the platinum champions of the Prep Hoops Next “Southwest Kick-off” just more than a month ago, they are unbeaten on the circuit and have only a handful of losses all season despite playing a national schedule. It goes without saying that talent flows deep on the Assault roster as well, and they’ll head northbound on I-35 this weekend, aiming to build on their recent performances.
Multiple Seventh-Grade Squads In Contention
The seventh-grade division at the Sooner State Showdown will be up for grabs this weekend as in-state clubs such as Oklahoma Dream Elite, Oklahoma PWP, Team Buddy Buckets, and Trae Young Elite will clash with out-of-state teams such as AAO Flight (AR), Arkansas Mavericks (AR), Flight Force Athletics (NM), Hoop Life Academy (AR), Legendary Athletes (AR), J.B. White Elite (NM), Next Page Force (AR), Razorbacks Elite (AR), Southern Assault (TX), and Texas Summit (TX). The field is stacked with newcomers that will be hoping to put their talent on display throughout the tournament.
Sixth-Grade Division Promises To Deliver
Not to be outdone, the sixth-grade team list at the Sooner State Showdown again has the talent to compete with any previous stops on the Prep Hoops Circuit to date. Among the dozen clubs set to take the hardwood this weekend are AAO Flight (AR), Drive Nation – Houston (TX), J.B. White Elite (NM), Next Page Force (AR), Oklahoma Kings (OK), Oklahoma PWP (OK), Oklahoma PWP Family (OK), Razorbacks Elite (TX), Team Griffin (OK), Team Hustle (TX), Texas Summit (TX), and We R1 (OK). More than a handful of national-caliber prospects are expected to be in attendance and we’ll be watching closely to see which names emerge.
The Search For Talent Continues
As always, the Prep Hoops Next circuit will continue to provide an unparalleled platform for individual prospects to showcase their talents. In the eighth-grade division,
