All 12 teams in this division played at an extremely high level and could have even competed in a higher age group at most tournaments. Here is a list of six of the best rebounders from the 12U division.
Kellen Cash 5’10” F AAO (featured image) – Kellen Cash was one of the lengthiest players at the tournament and he was a great rebounder on either end, but specifically on the defensive end. He uses his length to alter any shot that opposing big men would try to shoot and would come down with most rebounds that come into his vicinity. He also drew some fouls once he pulled offensive rebounds and would get to the line.
Joseph Graves 6’0″ F PWP – When Graves is in the paint no one else is going to pull a rebound other than himself. His size and frame alone allowed him to tower over most of his competition and pull rebounds almost effortlessly. Even when teams had solid big men he still dominated on the glass and pull multiple offensive rebounds in the same possession.
Jaylen Phillips 5’10” F Texas Summitt – A big part of Texas Summitt’s championship-winning tournament and high level of play was jumpstarted by Phillips and his ability to pull rebounds on either end. Once he pulled a defensive rebound he would often find a nearby guard and they would immediately go score on the other end. Phillips is also a solid offensive rebounder and he scored some second chance points. A lot of Texas Summitt’s transition points were possible because Phillips would rebound on the defensive end of the floor.
Matthias Valenzuela 6’2″ F Drive Nation Houston – Matthias Valenzuela had the best size of any big man at the tournament and he rebounded at an elite level in the game that I got to watch Drive Nation Houston play. Valenzuela uses his strength and frame to box out oponents back as far as he wants.
Rain Ragland F PWP-Family – Rain Ragland pulls every rebound that comes in his direction and he has good size, strength, and athleticism. One part about his game that caught my eye as a rebounder was how strong his hands were. Anytime that a rebound hit his hands, he wouldn’t lose the ball and come down with it with both hands.
Robert Young 6’0″ F Next Page Force – Robert Young brings great energy and his energy definitely helps him pull rebounds. He never gives up on a play and his energy combined with his size, length, and athleticism made him one of the best rebounders at the tournament. This energy got his team going and he plays with intensity.
