In an action packed two days, Prep Hoops Next was able to evaluate prospects from each middle school age group. In this article I take a look at some of the top performers from the 6th grade platinum division.
Samuel Babalola | Against All Cost | Class of 2027
Above All Cost advanced to the quarterfinals of bracket play at the A-Game SuperShootout and a main reason for that was because of the production Babalola brings in the low post. Currently standing at 6’0, Babalola was efficient around the rim which made him a reliable option on offense all weekend for his team. Babalola did a great job also of grabbing rebounds on both ends of the floor which was helped because of his height advantage. If Babalola keeps growing, he will be a name to remember.
Zikom Etolue | Team Takeover Eric Green | Class of 2027
I was slightly surprised when I learned Etolue was only in the 6th grade. His frame standing at 5’8, strength and play on the court have him looking older than he actually is. He was hard to stop in transition this past weekend which is where he got a lot of his points. Defensively, he was one of the better 6th graders I saw at the A-Game SuperShootout and has the making of being able to defend multiple positions because of his size and strength.
Nick Harken | T-Town Ballerz | Class of 2027
If it was not for Nick Harken, I don’t think T-Town Ballerz make it out of group play at the A-Game SuperShootout. Harken went to work in the low post whenever he was given the opportunity but also lets the game come to him and knows not to force anything when he is highly contested. Defensively, he was the best rim protector from the 6th grade division and part of that is because of his height standing at 5’10 He was blocking shot after shot as he knows when to time his jumps now. Teams had trouble scoring over him all weekend which was a reason why T-Town Ballerz had such a good weekend. Harken was that important to his team and is a name we will be monitoring closely moving forward.
Kamden Jackson | NJ Scholars | Class of 2027
Jackson is a skilled guard that was super fun to watch at the A-Game Super Shootout. He showed a great all around offensive game displaying a nice floater package where he got many of his points. He is definitely more of a pass first guard that was setting up his teammates perfectly on some very nice passes. Jackson is one of the many weapons on the Scholars and helped them bring home the championship in the 6th grade platinum division this past weekend.
Anthony Mauro | NJ Scholars | Class of 2027
Mauro is an absolute playmaker that makes his Scholars team better and was one of the main reasons they won the 6th grade platinum championship at the A-Game SuperShootout. Mauro, the younger brother of Pete Mauro, was dominant with the ball in his hands all weekend. He excels in attacking the rim hard and displayed some nice move to separate himself from defenders. He was the top ball handler in the 6th grade division and will be becoming more a name of the national scene sooner rather than later.
