Deerfield Beach, Fla. — Coverage of the eighth-grade division at the 2021 Balling On The Beach tournament begins to wrap up with the final segment among Class of 2025 backcourt performers in attendance. In what was an absolutely electric weekend in South Florida featuring an especially pool group of prospects, here are the remaining players at the guard position that made waves with their steady production…

Isaac Carr | Portland, OR | Class of 2025

The 6-foot-1 sniper made his presence felt for the eighth-grade runner-ups, Rose City Rebels (OR), throughout the 2021 Balling On The Beach tournament with timely shotmaking from different areas on the court. The future Ram headed to Central Catholic (OR) High School not only produced an impressive three-day shooting clinic in South Florida but he also showed flashes of a balanced floor game that will likely become even more apparent during the high school season. There’s much to be excited about with regard to Carr’s development as he continues to make strides physically and begins to unlock more areas of his game.

Jalyn Connor | Charlotte, NC | Class of 2025

Once again proving that there is always a spot on the floor for shotmakers, Connor was an integral part of the Grind Academy (NC) roster at the 2021 Balling On The Beach event, and delivered in several big moments for his squad. The amount of backcourt talent on his team meant that the ball was not always in the hands of the 5-foot-9 assassin, but Connor took advantage of his opportunities, demonstrating a quick trigger, deep range with his jumper, and extreme confidence when shooting the ball. A capable ball-handler, Connor has a lot of tools at his disposal, and should find his way back to the lead guard spot in a high school setting.

Katrelle Harmon | Bothell, WA | Class of 2025

Harmon traveled more than 6,500 miles to participate in the 2021 Balling On The Beach tournament and capitalized on the platform provided. He was arguably the most underrated player at the event, competing with a stacked Rose City Rebels (OR) team, but still displaying considerable upside within the confines of his role. A deceptive athlete, the 6-foot-1 guard can beat defenders with a quick first step, and then rise up to play above the rim when attacking the basket. Harmon showed promise with his shooting touch and has an enormous wingspan which is likely indicative of future growth. Remember this name in the Pacific Northwest region.

Kamal Henry | Manvel, TX | Class of 2025

Henry was one of the most physically imposing guards at the 2021 Balling On The Beach event. Suiting up with JL3 Elite – Battle (TX), the 6-foot-2 backcourt prospect proved to be an intimidating sight for the opposition, as he embraced the role of a defensive stopper in crucial situations, blitzing rival perimeter players and competing with reckless abandon throughout the weekend. The powerful southpaw was also a force in transition, exhibiting his ability to force tempo, and finish through contact at the rim. As Henry becomes more comfortable creating and identifying spots to attack offensively, his status in the Lone Star State will continue to rise.

John Laboy, Jr. | Houston, TX | Class of 2025

Laboy was one of the most consistent performers for JL3 – SP (TX) at the 2021 Balling On The Beach tournament. The sinewy, 6-foot-3 perimeter prospect provided value at both ends of the hardwood for his club, adding a scoring punch offensively, while offering versatility in the form of length and athleticism on defense. Laboy has an adaptive style of play that utilizes his variety of skills, and therefore, he can be plugged in at either the guard or forward position, particularly at the eighth-grade level. The opportunity for him to play meaningful minutes at St. Francis (TX) Episcopal School this fall will be another positive imprint on Laboy’s development.
