As Prep Hoops Next has talked about before, the PYBL is the premier middle school basketball league in the DMV and arguably the best middle school league in the entire country. The first championship game that took place was the Rising Stars Championship played between City and Southern MD. Below are five players who stood out in the championship game…
NaVorro Bowman | Class of 2027 | City
The regular season most outstanding player put on an absolute show Saturday in helping City secure the Rising Stars Championship. Finishing with 25 points, Bowman showed the DMV the star potential he has. Bowman is capable of scoring the ball at all three levels and that was demonstrated at a high level on Saturday. He is super quick and has the ability to get past defenders easily because of how shifty he is. Bowman lacks no confidence either as he will continue to try and score the ball whenever he can. Bowman was a clear cut favorite to take home MVP honors from the Rising Stars Championship Game.
Daylen Bolding | Class of 2027 | City
Bolding played a significant role in helping City beat Southern MD in the Rising Stars Championship game on Saturday. Only standing at 5’6 currently, Bolding was playing a lot bigger than his size making a huge difference on the offensive and defensive glass. City had a lot of second chance points and Bolding was a main factor in that with his ability to keep possessions alive.
Rell Davis | Class of 2027 | City
Davis was constantly engaged and playing with high energy for City on Saturday helping be a difference maker against Southern MD. Davis finished the game with 16 points and 7 rebounds and a handful of assists. His decision making was impressive as he did a good job of getting the ball to teammates when he had to. Davis is an upcoming player from the City that should be monitored moving forward.
Zikom Etoule | Class of 2027 | Southern MD
You can’t say enough about the toughness and heart Etoule plays with. If Southern MD would have won the Rising Stars Championship, Etoule would have been the MVP of the game. Already standing at 6’2, Etoule has strength far more advanced than his peers. He was ripping down rebounds all game and constantly beating defenders to the rim off the bounce as he is so hard to defend because of his size. Given his size, he impacts the game so much on both ends of the floor and has a chance to be one of the top prospects in the 2027 class from the DMV.
Christian Proctor | Class of 2028 | Southern MD
Proctor is another prospect from Southern MD far more advanced size wise than a lot of other players in his respective 2028 class. Proctor is already 6’0 and depending on how much more growing he does, has a chance to be really special. Proctor has a high motor and is always talking while on the court. He uses that high energy to score the ball in a variety of ways and can defend multiple positions on defense given his versatility. Proctor is an early favorite to win most outstanding player next year in the Rising Stars division of the PYBL.
