What are you looking forward to the most as you enter high school?
I’m looking forward to just learning and working on my driver’s permit. Also, playing basketball of course.
What are your goals as an incoming freshman?
I want to get my team to state and I want to honor God to the highest degree with the spiritual gifts that he has given me.
What have you been working on this off-season?
Everything! I have been working on my all-around game inside/outside. I’ve been working on my body trying to get stronger, quicker, and faster. I have also been working on my agility and injury prevention.
Tell us a little bit about what stands out from this past Spring and Summer?
Playing against some of the top-ranked players in the nation. I had the opportunity to play with Rose City (Oregon) and Heights Black (North Carolina). Winning tournaments or finishing second but playing against the best all over the country was a blessing. One of the best things that happened was having Jermaine O’Neal and Carmelo Anthony know who I was and having conversations with them. Lastly, making it to the Made Hoops final and almost winning it all.
Who do you pattern your game after?
Tracey McGrady, Kevin Durant and Penny Hardaway.
My brothers: Malek Harwell and Deshaun Harwell.
What do you want to prove to people that think there are no hoopers in Idaho?
I just want to play the best I can and everything else will work itself out.
Additionally
Harwell has an all-around game that has been taken to a new level, especially when he started in-game dunking at 13. He kind of reminds me a little bit of Grant Hill. He is explosive, especially when he changes speeds. Great looking shot that is fluid. Shoots it extremely well on the move. Does that little leg kick out on his jumpers similar to Grant Hill. Harwell has put in some time in the gym as he has the upper body to match his muscular lower frame. With offers from Idaho State and Cal Poly, Harwell is on his way to put himself on the map. Look for schools like Boise State, Utah, and other surrounding schools to start taking serious looks at Harwell.
