Great Western Classic Recap: Sensational Standouts Part 2

The Great Western Classic is always one of the marquee events of the Fall. Hosted by recruiting legend Tim Davis, the event features teams from Utah and around the Western Region. The age groups range from 3rd grade through Varsity Level. This year’s event ran from October 7th through October 9th and was held in the Salt Lake area, with several venues hosting, including Lehi, American Fork, and Juan Diego. Several players put together strong performances. In this article, a follow-up to Sensational Standouts Part 1 we highlight some sensational standouts from the event.

Dietrich Tuitavuki 5’11 PG Think Swish 2026 – Tuitavuki is a bruising forward that understands his role. The banger four-man displayed a soft touch when he could turn over his left shoulder and was a consistent interior defender for his squad.

Jax Clark 6’0 PF Think Swish 2026 – Clark is a long active defender with a ton of upside. He moves well, showing the ability to change ends of the floor effortlessly. The young big displayed the ability to hedge and switch ball screens as well as move his feet when defending opposing ballhandlers out on the perimeter.

Kai Wesley 6’6 PF Club Crossover 2026 – You better get used to hearing the name of Wesley. The 6’6 big has the skills of a wing. Wesley is most comfortable when putting the ball on the ground and attacking the rim. He is skilled, with good hands and a nice soft touch. He is one of the best finishing young bigs that I’ve seen in a while. Wesley played through contact, making a ton of tough layups around the rim.

Weston Abott 5’8 SG Mountain City 2026 – Abott showed that he could slash to the rim and finish. He really liked to attack using his strong hand, showing the ability to get consistent paint touches for his team.

Andrew Garner 6’2 C Desert Hills 2026 – Garner grew on me throughout the week. He’s not the fasted player but is a dedicated rim runner who is productive at what he does. Garner scored off putbacks, grabbing a slue of offensive rebounds and scoring around the basket.

Jorgen Southwick 5’10 SG Flight 2026 – I was fortunate to catch Southwick play when I caught up with his dad and brother John, who is a freshman at Dixie. The younger brother certainly has the physical tools, including size and long arms. He also has some skill, displaying a good first step along with the ability to shoot the ball.

Brody Thompson Mountain City Hoops 2026 – MCH’s program had a ton of good players, throughout their ranks. Thompson was one of their better ones this weekend. He was the squad’s primary ballhandler, showing the ability to protect against pressure, as well as set teammates up for buckets.
