The event, hosted by ABC, features 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade teams from around the Southwest United States. Pool Play took place Friday and Saturday with teams vying for all important bracket play seeding. Sunday and Monday was reserved for bracket play as teams went for the title. As any good coach knows, you’re going to need some big-time Glass Cleaners if you want to hoist a trophy. In this article, we take a look at the top rebounders from the event.
Gage Conway
Ht: 6’4
Class 2026
Favorite Player: Lebron James
Instagram: gagecon116
Scouts Take: Conway is a flat-footed rebounder, however, you can’t ignore the number of boards he corraled over the week. The 6’4 forward was a volume rebounder who seemed to always be around the ball. He displayed decent strength in his hands, rarely losing the ball to pesky guards looking to strip him. His activity and effort on the glass, made him one of the top overall rebounders at the event.
Melvin Robinson
Ht: 6’5
Class 2026
Favorite Player: Lebron James
Scouts Take: Robinson is a massive player. A raw prospect, he is still working on the other facets of his game. The one area he doesn’t need to improve in is rebounding. He gobbles up boards at a high rate. The 6’5 post man is a flat-footed rebounder, so he’s not going to sky over anyone, however, he is efficient using his body to carve out rebounding space under the boards.
Marcos Chavez (featured image)
Ht: 5’11
Class: 2026
Instagram: Chavez12077
Scouts Take: Chavez was one of the most dominating rebounders at the event. He has an advanced frame and he used it to muscle his way around the basket. An in traffic rebounder, Chavez had no problems going into highly contested areas and coming away with boards. He has extremely strong hands so he was able to keep possession even as other players swatted away at him.
Xavier Faux
Ht: 5’4
Class: 2029
Favorite Player Giannis Antetokounmpo
Scouts Take: Faux reminds me a lot of current California High School Basketball star Andrew Meadows. He got a lot of his boards, just by running the floor and following his teammate’s transition shot attempts. Don’t let the glasses fool you, the class of 2029 prospect played with a competitive edge, wresting the ball away from players on more than one occasion.
Teddy Jack
Ht: 5’6
Class: 2029
Scouts Take: Jack is the epitome of a big strong kid. He rebounded with a purpose, hunting down missed shots in transition. When he got his hands on the ball, it was his and no one was able to take the ball away from the 5’6 post. He did a good job grabbing in traffic boards, and was so strong that several players went flying when he wrestled the ball away from them.
Dreydon Montgomery
Ht: 5’8
Class: 2027
Favorite Player: Lebron James
Instagram: Etbl_drey5
Scouts Take: Montgomery was quick to everything including rebounding. The active 7th grader, got a lot of his boards from sheer hustle, chasing down loose balls. When he had to mix it up he showed some lift, getting off the floor and rebounding the ball in traffic. He put several other skills on display throughout the weekend, but his rebounding was probably his best.
Jashad Douglas
Ht: 5’7
Class: 2028
Favorite Player: Allen Iverson
Scouts Take: Got to see Douglas play in a hotly contested Championship game between two ABC squads. The lefty made his presence felt, grabbing countless boards on both the offensive and defensive end. He won almost every contested rebound, making him one of the top overall in traffic rebounders I saw on the day. Behind his board work his squad was able to escape with the championship.
