The event had teams ranging from sixth to eighth grade, and was a great preview to the AAU season and what teams will look like this spring.
There were so many standouts ranging from Virginia to Georgia and everywhere in between. There are still two more sessions, with one happening at U-Turn in Richmond on March 5 and 6, and one at the Virginia Beach Sportscenter April 15 and 16.
Here’s a look at part one of the standouts, looking at some of the top kids in the Virginia area.
All of the games from the event are available on the CBG Live Network!
Dre Harrison | Team Loaded VA 14U
Harrison is one of a few players on this 14U team that’s considered the best in the country that I wouldn’t be surprised to see as a nationally ranked player in the next few years and getting recruited at a high major level, as he already has great size at 6’7” with a good frame, a good motor and an advanced skillset. He’s beyond his years in his size and athleticism as he can already play above the rim, he can shoot the rock better than most kids his size and age and he understands the game and knows how to play as well.
Latrell Allmond | Team Loaded VA 14U
Allmond is another kid that is beyond his age in size and athleticism at 6’8”, and he plays all out with a great motor and gets after it with good toughness and a desire to get after it on both ends of the floor. He’s very mobile and runs the floor well for a young player his size, he can already play above the rim and rebounds in and out of his area and he makes plays that a lot of bigs two or three years older than him simply can’t make.
Cade Murphy | 6’5” WF | Team Loaded VA 14U
Murphy may get over shadowed at times by the two bigs who will turn heads at their age with their size and athleticism, but Murphy already projects to be a big time prospect at the wing position as he has great size for his age as he has college size as a shooter at 6’5” and a great feel and skillset to go along with it. In one game he scored 27 points by hitting 7 three-pointers, he knows how to work off the ball to get open, he has a quick release and he has a great IQ on both ends of the floor that is beyond his age.
Kai Wade | Team Loaded VA 14U
Wade is easy to get overlooked on this team because he doesn’t have crazy size but is still solidly built at 6’0” with a good frame, and he has a toughness and a production level that makes him very good against the best of the best at his age. He’s smooth off the bounce and gets to spots and makes plays for himself and others, he has good instincts on both ends of the floor and he can fill it up and make plays for himself and others off the bounce.
Amani Asane | Team Loaded Red 14U
Asane is an impressive young point guard with a lot of potential moving forward, as the 5’9” guard from NOVA has good quickness and end-to-end speed and he comes at you over and over again with the ability to both score it and make plays for others. He can get in the paint and break down the defense off the bounce, he has a great middle game with good pull-ups and floaters and he can get to the rim and finish in traffic and he brings good energy on both ends of the floor.
Dillon Callahan | Team Loaded Red 14U
Callahn is a guy to watch as he’ll likely end up in the NY or New England area since that’s where he hails from, and he has good size and is still growing and has a skill set that will get better and translates to the next level. The lefty is a big time shooter from deep with good range and great form, he knows how to play as he understands spacing and works to get to the spots to be open and he can can get hot quickly and make shots in succession.
