Heartland Kickoff: 14U Standouts (Part 2)

Fortville, IN. — Indiana was the place to be this weekend for all things grassroots basketball and one of the main attractions was the Heartland Kickoff. Some of the top teams from the midwest were posted up at Mt. Vernon High School this weekend and it is now time to dish out some awards from the weekend. Below are five 14U players that made a huge impact for their team. To check out part 1 of the 14u standouts, go here!

Cody Evan | Grand Park Premier Red

Evan played an important part in the success Grand Park Premier had last weekend at the Heartland Kickoff and showed his ability to do multiple things while on the court given his size standing at 6’5. He is efficient around the rim, goes hard after rebounds and does a good job of defending other post players. If Evan keeps on growing, watch out.

Grant Hardy | Wisconsin Playground

Hardy was easily one of the top scorers in the 14U division as every time he touches the ball he is a threat to score the basketball. His confidence plays a big part in his game as he constantly wants the ball in his hands. Look for Hardy to make noise in the state of Wisconsin once he hits the ground running in high school.

EJ Hazelett | D1 Indiana

Upside upside and more upside is the name of the game for Hazelett. Hazelett is currently listed at 6’3 and showed good instincts on both sides of the ball. He still needs to become more skilled and polished but that will come over time. Expect him to keep growing where he will even be more of a problem by the time he is an upperclassmen in high school.

Max Jones | GCG Milwaukee

Jones is another prospect that was able to score the ball in bunches. Playing with a talented GCG Milwaukee team, Jones was a go to threat for him offensively. Jones understands key components on the defensive side of the ball and is another player that I expect to have a big impact on both sides of the ball once he gets into high school.

Gage Peterson | Illinois Bears

Playing for more of a program that I didn’t know too much about going into Heartland Kickoff, Peterson caught my eye right away when watching him. Being a bigger player for the 8th grade standing at 6’4, Peterson has a really nice skill set that lets him score easily around the rim. I did not get to see as much as I would have liked of Peterson but the glimpses I did see, he was a no brainer for this list.
