In the state where “everything is bigger” – the talent was just that. The amount of game these young athletes had was equally exciting and inspiring to watch. The games were tough, the pressure on both ends was high-level and individual prospects were showcasing what they will bring to the next level of hoops.

Take a look at the guys who caught my eye as having the “biggest impact” on winning over the weekend at Lonestar State Showdown.

Marcus Boyd | Team Ferrari 2028

Boyd played with a constant edge on both ends of the floor. His consistent pursuit of the ball along with his wiry frame allowed him to feast on the glass. The “big-guard” was able to shoot over the top of defenders as well as show great court vision when under pressure. His do-it-all mentality allowed Team Ferrari to play with great pace.

Josiah Rose | ARK Texas Summit / Vols Elite 2028

Rose played with a high-level competitive edge which made for; putback baskets in the paint, gaining a head of steam getting downhill with the ball, and relentlessly scoring against contact in the paint. His strength and athleticism make him an impactful player wherever he’s needed on the floor. Texas Summit had a chance to win each time out when Rose was the focal point.

Soana Hola | Team Ferrari 2028

Hola was a presence in the paint, proving to have a; great nose for the ball, crafty pivot under pressure, and the ability to lead the break after a defensive board. His pace and size allowed him to make plays for himself and others. Team Ferrari was exciting to watch when he was in mode.

Antonio Williams | Louisiana Cardinals 2027

Williams proved to be a clutch scooter giving Lousiana Cardinals momentum-shifting baskets. His size and power allowed him to absorb contact while attacking the rim. His poise and awareness got him space to catch and shoot from three-point range in key moments. Williams stepped up when it mattered most and proved to be a reliable option.

Dreydon Montgomery | Flight Force Athletics 2027

Montgomery’s skill set bids him well with the ball in his hands, he has a great pace about him. His size and handle allow him to make plays on all three levels of the floor. He caused mismatches; taking bigger defenders on the dribble in space, putting smaller defenders on his hip and shooting over the top, and going coast to coast and making scoring plays before the defense could get set.
