I made a pit stop in the birthplace of the Indy 500 and these young prospects were driving and kicking it into gear at a high level. Here are some of the top names in pole position this weekend.
Torrey Baskin | Greater Purpose Athletics
Baskin is an all-around leader while in the lead guard position. His competitiveness led the way on both ends for Greater Purpose Athletics. The lightning-quick guard blew by defenders with ease and continuously; poured in feathery floaters, kicked to open teammates, and finished around the rim with either hand. His constant pressure on the defensive end was contagious to his teammates and his efforts led to; turnovers on the backcourt, a lack of rhythm by the opponent, and momentum-shifting plays.
James Craig | EG10
Craig used his size and skill to his advantage this weekend. The physical guard has a knack for finishing through contact as a result caused a lot of drop defenses from his opponents and in those situations, Craig was able to knock down shots from range. The three-level scorer was a focal point for offensive production for EG10 and hit some clutch shots in big moments. The scoring guard exploited mismatches on a regular basis.
Athens Mcgillis | Midwest Basketball Club
McGillis is a steady guard with a calm approach to the game. His ability to handle pressure and see the floor made for an efficient offense for Midwest Basketball Club. Athens set the floor on a regular basis and hit big shots when his team needed them the most. His ability to score on all three levels pulled at the help defenses enough to get his teammates; open threes in rhythm, lead passes to layups, and timely skip passes that lead to scoring plays. The high IQ guard was a calming presence for his team the entire tournament.
Brandon Addison | Team Teague
Addison is a next-level ready guard who handled one on one coverage with ease and made high IQ decisions in trapping situations. His steady handle and quick first step allowed him to get downhill with little to no trouble. His production was second to none due to his; reliability under pressure, adept court vision, and keen body control finishing around the rim. Addison plays with patience that is contagious to his teammates. He was a vocal leader throughout tournament play.
Khymir Carson | Team Illinois
Carson is a skilled lead guard who can flat out fill it up in the scoring column. His confidence in shooting from range spaced the floor for Team Illinois. The shifty guard has a tight handle and a knack for attacking angles. He was able to get the downhill and make an impact time and time again. The combo guard proved to be a high-level facilitator as well; finding cutting teammates, drawing help and making precise skip passes, evading pressure, and provoking scoring plays.
