The first day of the Sunshine Slam was a full day of basketball featuring some of the top talent from the southeast. It was good to see some kids we have seen before but great as always to see some prospects that were new to us. Below are five takeaways from the opening day…
Florida Express Rolls
Florida Express got things rolling Saturday morning at Sunshine Slam as they are looking like a legit competitor for the 14U championship down in Winter Haven. 2026s Toni Bryant and Evan Kramer were the two leaders for Express as they are two of the top overall prospects playing in the Sunshine Slam. Don’t expect this to be the last time you hear about these two guys throughout the weekend.
Xtreme Pressure Dominates
Xtreme Pressure ended Saturday finishing 2-0 as they are considered another championship favorite at Sunshine Slam. The two go to guys for Pressure are 6’3 Calvin Thomas and 6’4 Iran Francis Jr. Given both of these guys’ size, they held a big mismatch against their opposition and were dominant on the offensive end. They both made life hard for their opponents with their stout defense as well. This is another group you will hear more about throughout the weekend.
Danforth Is Back At It
Danforth has been really good in front of us before and he continued to dominate on Saturday for his FVV Elite group leading them to a record of 3-0 on the day. Danforth is a legit scorer that can score the ball in a variety of ways and wants the ball in his hands because of that. I tweeted it yesterday, but there have not been many players that have been as consistent as Danforth on the Prep Hoops Next Circuit this year and he is showing that again at Sunshine Slam.
Brandon Brazil Can’t Be Stopped
Was there a player as dominant as Brazil on Saturday? If there was, I truly missed him. Brazil was the lead catalyst for his Athletes Of Influence squad leading them to a 2-0 record. I don’t know if his team is as deep as some of the other 14u teams but Brazil is going to be a real factor on championship Sunday in Winter Haven.
13U Is Up For Grabs
Multiple teams enter Sunday battling for the top spots in their pools so they can play in the 13U Championship game. The 13U games have been fought hard as I said many teams are in contention for the title. Sunday morning is going to be fun as we see who battles for the title. Xtreme Pressure, No Excuses Elite and TNBAJayhawks enter the day as the three lone undefeated teams.
