Dallas, Texas – On March 21st and 22nd, 14U & 13U teams packed Haltom and Legacy High School and put on a show! The prospects in the building displayed eye-catching talents. Nearing the end of the Spring season, there are many players to keep an eye on going into the Summer. In both blowouts and nail biters, athletes came to compete and get exposure. It’s not always about what is on the scoreboard but the high-level skills displayed at such a developing age. Below, I’ve highlighted some of the Top Lead Guards that I watched compete at The Tune-Up.

Aiden Givens | LA Broncos

Givens is an agile guard with great instincts on both ends of the floor. His skill and reach come into play when attacking the basket, he’s able to weave through the lane with a steady handle and footwork. The elusive guard consistently got downhill and was able to finish with either hand. His size and athleticism allowed him to grab boards, to push the break, and end possessions for his opponents. His motor and pace are next-level ready. Givens is an impact player and leader by example for LA Broncos.

Davion Vasquez | Texas Tar Heels

Vasquez proved to be a sound decision-maker for the Texas Tar Heels. His ability to remain calm and see the floor while under pressure stood out. The playmaking guard has a great motor and seemed to always get to his point of attack. The pressure he applied on defenses gave his team the advantage and provoked the defense to rotate in the half-court. The lightning-quick guard has a nose for the ball. When he came up with defensive rebounds, he became an immediate coast-to-coast threat. The fleet-footed prospect has a great change of pace and understanding of how to make an impact on each possession.

Theo Brannon | RZB Elite

Brannon is a quick-witted floor general who led the way for RZB Elite. His patience and vigilance made for precision passing against full-court pressure. The high IQ guard was a calming presence on the floor by making timely passes and keeping the ball moving. His passes led teammates to easy baskets via; skip passes when the weak side help over played the ball, screeners rolling to the basket, and dimes threw on a string to shooters on the perimeter. Brannon has outstanding instincts and decision-making.

D’Anthony Moore | Nike Pro Skills (Killeen)

Moore is an intelligent guard who leads by example on both ends. The two-way guard excelled in anticipating passes in pressing situations resulting in deflections, steals, and transition points. The steady presence at the guard position got it done on the other end by remaining upbeat against the press. His passes were precise and timely in the half-court which resulted in layups and clean looks on the perimeter. The floor leader has a knack for putting his teammates in a position to score. His foresight and instincts are elite!

Joseph Spann III I WBBP Rush

Spann III is an all-around leader for WBBP. His energy and motor set him apart on the open floor. His size and speed make him a matchup nightmare on the half-court and a tough cover when he gets a head of steam going downhill. The skilled wing has a great rhythm and feel for the game, he has proven to be a versatile scorer on all three levels of the floor. His lateral quickness and wiry wingspan were impactful. He was winning 50/50 balls and snatching down rebounds with the trees in the paint.
