The roster had multiple high-ceiling athletes who individually turned heads with their talent so it was clear this group would make some type of noise! Brock Walser (Badger HS) and Brandon Harper (Greendale HS) are two players to keep a close eye on heading into high school action as they both may earn some quality minutes at the Varsity level. Coach Bauer preached “teamwork and hard work” to this squad. Certainly, they were all elite athletes in their own right but he put an emphasis this season on attitude and effort. “Our goal at Chapman South is to build strong individual players within the fabric of a strong team function.” Below is the latest team roster and a few notes on what each player brought to the squad this summer. Brock Walser (6-0 Badger HS) is a physically strong perimeter player who plays both ends of the floor with great intensity while leading the team in points per game and rebounds per game. His development has added the ability to score in various ways.  Brandon Harper (5-11 Greendale HS) is one of the best finishers around the rim. He is a pure athlete that rebounds at a high rate against any size player. His quickly developing offensive repertoire and range have added consistency this past season making him a threat at all times. Luke Bauer (6-2 Milwaukee Pius) provides great intensity and versatility for a quickly growing and developing young player. His mental toughness and strong desire to compete made him effective in creating havoc on the defensive end against any size player. This pours over into increased confidence on the offensive end with the ability to finish at the rim, make consistent mid-range shots, and make shots from beyond the college line. He led the team with blocked shots and was second for 3-pointers made.Matthew James (6-2 Brookfield Central) is the steady, unselfish, glue player of the team. He provides whatever is needed at the right time. He will defend post players effectively, knock down 3-point shots consistently, can handle the point guard position, has one of the team’s best assist to turnover ratios (1.5), rebounds well, and finishes with an array of strong moves. Zach Murphy (5-11 Pewaukee) brings a yeoman’s effort to every game. He works as hard on the floor as any player helping set the tone of intensity. He is willing and able to guard post players and on the perimeter. He led the team in Charges Taken. Zach is also able to score from anywhere on the floor from long distances to mid-range jumpers, to a deadly ability to finish near the rim. Cooper Markee (5-9 Whitnall) is a creative scorer who has improved on the defensive end tremendously. He provides an offensive threat on all 3 levels while having great floor vision and a high basketball IQ. His growth potential is one of the highest on the team.  Thaison Martin (5-7 New Berlin Eisenhower) is one of the most intense players. He is never afraid of any player on the floor. He will attack you on offense and provide an intense, in-your-face defense. Coupled with his incredible three-point efficiency, he is a threat at all times.Christopher Nimmer (5-9 New Berlin Eisenhower) adds to the CBA South grit on both ends. He is one of the most creative finishers near the rim around and over the competition. On the defensive end, he brings a bulldog-like mentality of toughness and athleticism that helps close out the defense with steals and rebounds. Clearly a group of studs and soon-to-be HS players to watch, we dove deeper into CBA South U14 [Q&A with Coach Bauer] and their experience on the Prep Hoops NEXT circuit and what’s to come for these prospects. Which Prep Hoops Next event do you remember most and why? Our CBA South U14 Black team enjoyed every Prep Hoops Next Event we competed at this season. It was the overall atmosphere and location of the National Championship that really stood out as the best event. To be at a great facility like the Hy-Vee Center and play against the best teams from across the nation was an overall great experience. Our players enjoyed the competition in every tournament, getting opportunities to watch great players and compete against X-Men United, Wisconsin Elite, MBC McGillis, Team Illinois, NYBA Elite, and National Champion BBD. But one of our most memorable was the Grind it Out, Back and forth game against EG10 at the Hustle in the Hoosier State event. It was a battle from the Tip and an exciting game all the way into overtime. How do you feel your program competed throughout? Every game our players made us proud. They played hard and together. Their chemistry on and off the court was exceptional. Each player was prepared for each game to give 100% mentally and physically. No matter the situation, they would never quit. This is for a group that was composed of several new players to our program. Our future is bright. As with every team, everyone needs to continue to develop their individual skills and grow physically to make the step to the next level. It will be our Family culture linked with the focus on development that will help them compete more in the future. Who is leaving this summer a better player than when summer started? Every player on our CBA South U14 Black team has improved dramatically. Each one has shown great commitment to our program by being committed to their personal development not only on the court but mentally and physically. The Team developed its chemistry and identity week to week all season. Two players who improved the most for us were Cooper Markee and Luke Bauer. Cooper Markee (5-9 Whitnall) showed improvement in our 3D mentality – physical, mental, and skill development. As the season progressed, he accepted the challenge to improve his defense. We saw him become more physical. On the offensive end, he was able to overcome early struggles with enhanced confidence and added moves to increase his scoring efficiency. His value will increase with continued 3D growth. Luke Bauer (6-2- Milwaukee Pius) saw his game improve on both ends. Our team lacked a True Post player, so Luke accepted the challenge and would engage in physical battles against bigger more athletic players every game. He would Never Back down and quite often mentally frustrated opponents. He also improved his ability to defend perimeter players. Luke made strides on the offensive end with improved scoring options on all three levels. He became one of our leading 3-point shooters who saw his effectivity and range dramatically increase beyond the college line. Who are a couple of your “Team Leaders”, who create the flow on the court? It is hard to Say One player above another as Each player contributed to our CBA South Identity on and off the floor. But two players can be attributed with jump-starting our group. Brock Walser (6-0 Badger HS) has been our catalyst since Day 1. He has the ability to create opportunities out of defense, rebounds, and in the flow of our Chapman offense. This would open the court for himself and his teammates. Thaison Martin (5-7 New Berlin Eisenhower) was our Poster Boy. He embodied Everything our CBA South program stresses. He always played like he had a chip on his shoulder. At 5’7, he was not the most intimidating person to start a game, but teams learned what an Impact he brought to every possession. He would be tasked with the other team’s best perimeter player on defense. And still was a great impact on offense leading our team in 3 point percentage at 40% and was a very strong, creative finisher. What is expected for next summer? The same plan of attack? For 2023, Our CBA South U15 team will have everyone returning. We are excited to have this Core back to further develop themselves as well as the team chemistry that is important to success. Our Strong Family Culture shines in each of these players as well as some additions to help increase our size and strong guard play. One key addition is Kayden Travis (5-8 West Allis Central). He joined our team for practices during the summer and will be an incredible addition in 2023 with his strong court awareness, defense, and ability to lead his team. Kayden makes everyone around him better. The goal will be the same – Make Everyone Better Everyday! We will continue to focus on our Culture – Respect, Being Prepared, Integrity, Hard Work, and a Don’t Quit Attitude.
