How long have the boys been playing basketball and at what point did they start to get competitive?
Both boys started playing sports at the age of 5. They first tried basketball, then baseball, and flag football. Basketball started getting competitive for them when they started playing AAU in 3rd grade. playing rec ball was too easy for them.
Who is their favorite player and why?
Isaiah: My favorite player is Kobe Bryant because he worked the hardest out of everybody. Also, he sacrificed his sleep so he could be as good as he was.
Anthony: My favorite player is Steph Curry because he changed the game, and he is the best shooter of all time. When he went to college, he went to a small D1 college and carried his team to the finals in 2008.
Do they boys have a favorite team?
Isaiah: My favorite team is the Golden State Warriors because they are the only team I have watched that is not selfish with the ball and all the players play together as a team.
Anthony: I have 2 favorite teams. One is the Golden State Warriors because like my brother said they are an unselfish team. They all play very well defense and all their players are very good with everything (shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense of plays) Also, the 2004 Lakers when they won back-to-back championships and Kobe won MVP and Pau Gasol helped him win those titles.
What are some things the boys are working on?
- We work on the fundamentals every day
- One thing that will take some time is Transforming their shot from a push shot to an over-the-head shot. This will take time because it’s like trying to build Rome in a day
- Attacking the basket with explosion, speed, and pace. While keeping their eyes up
- Reading how to use off-ball screens and on-ball screens (offensively and defensively)
- Controlling emotions
Is there a dream college they would like to attend?
Isaiah: My dream college is Duke University because some of the best NBA players now were drafted from Duke and because they are a D1 school.
Anthony: I want to go to North Carolina because I would like to play against Duke where all the good players go.
Is basketball something that runs in the family?
Yes. It started with me (mom). Playing for a team for the first time in the 6th grade. enjoyed it so much it was my outlet. I was really good at defense, so I was told by my freshman coach. I realized how much I loved playing I never stopped playing ever since. Shortly after, making the freshman team my younger brother began to play and fell in love with it. He actually earned a scholarship to play for Rio Hondo College (California). Basketball is the only sport in the family.
I’m assuming things get competitive in the home. How do they manage to remain competitive with each other but also understanding that they are competing against others?
The boys compete against each other in EVERYTHING!!! They are always challenging each other to who is the best shooter, best ball handler and who can jump higher. Lol according to my youngest son (Anthony) if he can beat his brother in any area of basketball he is in good shape. They both use each other to make each other better. Neither of them likes to lose so it is a never-ending game with them.
How would you describe each of their games?
Isaiah: He’s laid back cool kid, can shoot with the best of them. He is also a lockdown defender if you challenge him. Smooth, athletic guard that can hit open shots all around. He is a 90% average free throw shooter.
Anthony: Shifty guard who can score on all 3 levels. Playmaker and IQ is underrated. He can also guard any team’s best player and lock them up. Vocal leader and does what it takes to win.
Is there someone they’re currently training with?
Yes, Emmanuel Holloway is a professional trainer in our hometown. He played at Illinois State University and all the places overseas:
Hannover Tigers (Germany)
Brno Basketball Club ( Czech Republic)
Vilpas Vikings (Salo, Finland)
Lahti Basketball Club (Finland)
Geneva Lions ( Switzerland)
Boncourt Red Team ( Switzerland)
Ravenna Lions (Italy)
Riyadh Club ( Saudi Arabia)
Korihait ( Finland)
The Moreno Brother’s have something special and have family ties to the game. Georgia has some good youngsters playing for their respective club teams. Stay tuned the Moreno Brothers got NEXT.
